Berniece Mae (Olsen) Duffy born to Lester & Christina (Hacck) Olsen at home December 1, 1928 with snow up above the windows. She grew up in Marshalltown Iowa. Berniece gained the nickname Bernie which she used all through her life. She was quite a tomboy growing up, loved climbing trees, riding bikes, and attending church. She enjoyed playing with her siblings Robert, Betty, and Nancy. Bernie attended Marshalltown school and did quite well and participating in as many sports as she could.... Berniece Mae (Olsen) Duffy born to Lester & Christina (Hacck) Olsen at home December 1, 1928 with snow up above the windows. She grew up in Marshalltown Iowa. Berniece gained the nickname Bernie which she used all through her life. She was quite a tomboy growing up, loved climbing trees, riding bikes, and attending church. She enjoyed playing with her siblings Robert, Betty, and Nancy. Bernie attended Marshalltown school and did quite well and participating in as many sports as she could. In her senior she took part in the vocational office class as a secretary and worked after school. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1946. She started at 16 to work at Kresge's 5 & 10 cent store and worked there full time alongside her sister Betty. Through her father’s urging her to write a pen pal a solider she met Forest Lawyer where after he came back and a short period of dating they married. The marriage last 51/2 years. She moved back home and got a job at Marshalltown Manufacturing. Where she worked beside Bernadell Lille. Who after a while introduce her to the love of her life John W Duffy. They dated for a while then they were married in the Pastors home in Clemons, Iowa on February 28, 1956. She work at Marshalltown Manufacturing which eventually became Marshalltown instruments where she worked for 29 years in the print shop, where she was the work leader until her retirement. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. John and Bernie enjoyed working. They also love spending time together driving around and enjoying looking at the country side. Also fishing by the Marshalltown dam with a picnic lunch. They enjoyed watching basketball games, going to the Marshalltown Mall waking around maybe stopping when something that caught their eye to shop. They especially loved going out to dinner with her sister and Brother-in-law Betty and Roger Nason. John and Bernie lived a full life loving each other, which anyone could see the spark of love light up light up between them when they saw or spoke of each other. It was a true love that lasted until John’s death in February 2014. Berniece is survived by a her widowed sister-in-law Ofelia Olsen (Robert) San Antionio TX, Ramona (Billy) Hernandez in San Antonio TX , Carlton (Karen) Olsen Winberley TX, Kenneth (Norma) Olsen San Antonio TX, David Olsen San Antonio TX, her sister Nancy (Fred) Carter in Owings, Maryland. Nieces Patty (Edward) Smith La Plata MD, Kathleen (Donald) Tondee Ellanville, GA, Michael Gibb Alexandria VA, Andrew (Brenda) Gibb Huntington MD. Sister-in-Law Bernadell Lillie Marshalltown IA. Plus several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Parents, husband Johnny, brother Robert Olsen, sister and brother–in-law Betty & Roger Nason. Graveside services for Berniece Duffy of Marshalltown, Iowa, were held Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown. Pastors Keith McDonald and Tom Bower were officiants for the service. Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown was entrusted with arrangements.
