Read More	LOMAX, BERNITA LEONE—Bernita Leone (Reed) Lomax was born to Cecil Reed and Eloise (Endicott) Reed on March 13, 1930, at Cawker City, Kan., and passed away May 6, 2006 at her home in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 23 days. She was the only child born to this union. She grew up in Cawker City, Kan., residing with her Aunt Leone and graduating from Cawker City High School in 1948. After graduation, Bernita attended Kansas City, Kansas Junior College, where she was a member of Zeta Sorority and graduated with an English Teaching Certificate in 1950. Bernita worked as a bookkeeper for Barnett Manufacturing Company in Cawker City until her marriage to Norval (Si) Lomax on August 14, 1955. The Lomax’s moved to Omaha, where Bernita worked at Mutual of Omaha, until the birth of their first son, Robert. They relocated to Hebron, and they were soon blessed with another son, Noel. In 1967, they moved to Geneva. Bernita worked for M.A. Nichols, The Nebraska Signal and the Youth Developmental Center before retiring in 1996. Bernita loved music. She shared her love of music and talents by giving piano lessons and playing the organ and piano for church services, weddings and funerals. Heartache came in 1972, when their son, Noel’s life was lost. Bernita later helped organize the Geneva Chapter of Compassionate Friends, to help comfort other parents with their grief of losing a child. Joy filled Bernita’s life with the births of her three grandchildren, Calla, Riki and Christian. Grandpa and Grandma Bert, (which was easier to say than Grandma Bertina) were very active in their grandchildren’s lives, spending many hours babysitting, attending sporting events, concerts, programs, traveling, camping and fishing. She was a very devoted Grandmother! Socializing was a favorite hobby for Bernita. She loved visiting, dining out, going for coffee and sharing adventures with her social clubs, (The Birthday group and Friday “Coffee Club”) and the “Bike-riding housewives”. Bernita was an active member of the United Methodist Church and women’s circle in Geneva. She received Special Mission Recognition award in 2005. Her faith was a driving force throughout her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Leone and son, Noel Lomax. She is survived by husband Norval (Si) Lomax, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Francine Lomax, grandchildren Calla, Aarika and Christian Lomax, sister Carolyn Morrison, brother, Ron Reed, nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 10, with Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Calla Lomax who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Hymn of Promise.” Casket bearers were Stan, Stuart, and Steve Schoen, Dick Jiskra, Don Gill, Chad Karcher, Jim Jacobsen and Mitch Hedden. Honorary bearers were Carole Prater, Merna Conley, Dawn Hedden, Norma Lauber, Evelyn Dorman, Darlene O’Brien, Ruth Sorge, Jean Lovegrove and Rosemarie Thurin. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal May 17th, 2006 page 10.
