SI--Norval L. Si Lomax was born July 13, 1928, in Woodston, Kan., to Vivian E. Lomax and Anna Barnes Lomax, and passed away July 30 at his home in Geneva. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday. Si was raised and cared for by his aunt and uncle Perry and Gladys Lomax in Cawker city, Kan., as his father’s work took him away from the home. Si graduated from Cawker City High School in 1947, where he excelled in all athletics. After graduation, Si enlisted in the Armed Services and served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C. until 1951. Following his discharge from the service, Si moved back to Cawker City and joined his uncle and family on the farm. On August 14, 1955, Si married Bernita Reed of Cawker City, Kan. Two sons, Robert and Noel blessed this union. Si and Bernita celebrated 50 years of marriage before Bernita passed away in May 2006. After their marriage, the Lomax’s moved to Omaha where Si worked for Continental Can and attended the School of Radio and Television Institute. After completion of school, they relocated and he began his career in Hebron with Boatman Electronics, then Miller Appliance. In 1967, they moved to Geneva where Si opened Lomax TV Service within Fulton’s Furniture and Gambles Store. Si sold and retired from the TV repair and service in 1996. After his retirement, Si worked part-time for Sargent Drilling and Consumer Service Co. Heartache struck the Lomax family in 1972, with the loss of their son Noel. The Lomax’s were instrumental in organizing the Geneva Chapter of Compassionate Friends, to help comfort other parents with their grief of losing a child. Grandpa Si was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He attended many concerts, plays, and programs and rarely missed a ball game, sitting through many “raining soccer games!” He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on “adventures”, camping and traveling all around the country! Si was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors all his life. He was a Geneva Volunteer Fireman, member of Geneva Lodge No. 79 of Masons and a past Master Mason, lifetime member of American Legion, United Methodist Church and an involved community member. Si was preceded in death by his father, aunt and uncle Gladys and Perry Lomax, cousin James Lomax, wife Bernita and son Noel. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Bob and Francine Lomax; grandchildren Calla, Aarika and Christian Lomax; cousins Jan Cornely and Joyce Lomax, and John Lomax; sister, Virginia Thompson; brother Donnie Yaussi, and many relatives and friends. Si was a very special person and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for Si were held on August 5 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Geneva, with Pastor Jim Miller officiating. Sondra Myers accompanied Calla Lomax in the singing of “How Great Thou Art,” and she also accompanied Calla Lomax and Dallas Owen in the duets of “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Hear You, Me.” Pallbearers for the service were Steve Schoen, Stan Schoen, Stuart Schoen, Alan Yaussi, Arthur Yaussi, Dick Jiskra, Mitch Hedden and Chad Karcher. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal August 13th, 2008 page 5.
