Description	:	949 \| BENTON, Burt, son of Mint and Angeline BENTON, was born at Kahoka MO Jan 11, 1873. At the age of 18 he moved with his parents to the present farm home near Waterbury NE, where he resided 58 years. At the age of 18 he moved with his parents to the present farm home near Waterbury NE, where he resided 58 years. One Feb 21, 1900 he was united in marriage to Bertha McAFEE, and to this union were born seven children. As a boy he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. Later in young manhood he experienced a definite work of grace in his heart that motivated his daily living. His life was devoted to his master's service. He held to his faith in Jesus to the end. He was generous and kind to all. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a member of the Springbank Friends church. For many years he was a member of the Elk Valley Friends church, several years of which he served as clerk of the meeting. He also was a member of the Oakdale school board for a number of years. After a lingering illness he departed this life at the Sioux City Methodist hospital Feb 14, 1949, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 3 days. He is survived by his widow, Bertha BENTON, and six children: Merl of Valparaiso NE, Ralph of Normal IL, Ruth of State College PA, Chester of Waterbury NE, Dale and Lawrence of Allen. One daughter, Helen preceded him in death. One sister, Mrs Minnie BEARD of Lusk WY also survives. There are 18 grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church in Allen with Rev Patterson in charge, assisted by Rev Labertson. Music was furnished by solos from Eldred Smith and a duet by Mrs Arthur Fegley and Bill Money, with Mrs Josie Hill accompanist. Contributor #46556307
