Read More	Halifax Herald 7/14/2008 ALLEN, Bertha Abigail - Shelburne, passed away peacefully at home in Shelburne, July 11, 2008, in her 87th year. She was born July 2, 1921, in Upper Port LaTour. She was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Cann) Nickerson. Bertha was taken in, due to the illness of both her parents, by neighbours and good friends, Durkee and Rosa (Packer-Atwood) Chetwynd. She was much loved and cared for by this family and always thought of them as her own. She loved life in Upper Port LaTour and throughout the years visited and wrote much about her years there. Bertha spent many years, suffering from tuberculosis, in the Kentville Sanatorium, as well as the Satellite Hospital in Shelburne, where she met many friends who kept close contact through the years. Moving to Shelburne in 1950, she gained a new family and friends that she met in connection with her church and community affiliations. She was a long-time member of Shelburne United Baptist Church. She shared her faith in Christ with everyone who came into her presence. Bertha wrote for the Shelburne Coast Guard for many years and loved to visit with both her close friends and the elderly, who loved to have her drop by. Surviving are her devoted and loving sons, Edward (Mary), Centreville, C.S.I., and Rev. Edwin (Karen), Barrington, as well as granddaughters, Christy, April and Ruth; grandsons, Michael and Benjamin; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Edward (Morton) Allen; brothers, Allison, Kenneth, Arthur, William, Leland, Lewis, Ronald (Packer), and grandson, Jody-Edwin. A graveside service, at Bertha's request, will take place on July 22 at 2 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, with Edward's Pastor, Rev. David Ingalls officiating. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shelburne United Baptist Church or Camp Jordan. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
