Bertha Blassing was born January 8,1901 in Cass Township, Jones County, the daughter of August and Bertha Fairbanks Blassing. She was raised by her grandparents, Allen and Harriet Fairbanks, after her mother died shortly after her birth. She received her early education in the Deer Creek School in Cass Township, later graduating from Monticello High school. Bertha Blassing and Thomas Stimpson were married January 26,1921. The couple farmed in Cass Township until 1942 when they moved to Anamosa. Thomas preceded her in death on June 18, 1974. Bertha had been a resident at the Anamosa Care Center since March 1986. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Fairbanks Family in America, the Evangeline Rebekah Lodge, and the Jones County Historical Society. She had also been a member of the DAR and the Jones County Farm Women's Club. She was also an avid genealogist. Bertha is survived by five children: John of Anamosa, Betty Angus of Atkinson, IL, Anna Brickley and Eunice Conley, both of Anamosa, Barbara Petersen of Davenport, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, eight step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren.
