Read More	********************************* Published Nov. 8, 2005 - Humboldt, KS Bertha McKinley, 91, of Torrance, California, passed away November 3, 2005 at the Bay Crest Care Center in Torrance, California. Bertha was born December 25, 1913 in Humboldt, Kansas. She grew up and lived there until 1942 when she moved to Torrance, California. Bertha worked for the Retail Clerks for 30 plus years. She was a very devoted employee. In her spare time and retired years Bertha loved making craft items and various art projects. She enjoyed the holidays and would always come up with new and interesting craft project. Every year she would incorporate a different theme for her Christmas tree and house decorations. Bertha and her husband Mac, belonged to the Torrance Rod and Gun Club. She enjoyed fishing as a hobby. Her nickname was Bubbles. She got that nickname by always looking in the water for the bubbles for a good place to cast her hook. In her retired years she enjoyed traveling around with her husband Kenneth in their motor home. They belonged to a group called the Outhousers and had many friends. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home. She made delicious pies and fried chicken among other things. Up until the last few years she was an avid member of the Torrance Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Woman's Church Circle. She is survived by her son, Gene McKinley and wife Susan of Torrance, CA; grandson, Blake McKinley of Corvallis, OR; and granddaughter Shannon McKinley of Corvallis, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth R. McKinley; her brother Merle Beeman; her six sisters, Mary Bland, Ethel Sharp, Myrtle Nordt, Lottie Brock, Dorothy Nordt, and Blanch Baker. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 8, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel, with Reverend David Meier officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas. Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements. *******************************
