Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the High Prairie United Methodist Church. Pastor Gertie Nichols will officiate. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Ryan Harbaugh, Patrick Harbaugh, Robert Casey Harbaugh, Ryan Castle, Brent Castle, Charity Schmelzer, and Sy Schmelzer. Memorials may be made to the High Prairie United Methodist Church. Bertha was born on December 27, 1919, in West Liberty, the daughter of William and Ola Hankins McMahon. She was united in marriage to Robert K. Harbaugh on September 13, 1942, at the High Prairie United Methodist Church in Muscatine County. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1999. She taught school in country schools for five years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a very generous and loving soul and especially loved her grandchildren and watching their activities. She was a lifelong member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Farm Bureau Women. Those left to honor her memory one son, Robert L. Harbaugh of Muscatine; one daughter, Marian Lee Harbaugh of Clinton; two adopted daughters, Debbie Castle and husband, Randy, of Muscatine, and Susan Adams and husband, Carl, of Muscatine; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Florence McMahon of West Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Art McMahon; and two sisters, Inez Sweeney and Marguerite Sizemore.
