With her family nearby, she quietly slipped away to the home she so anxiously awaited. Mother was born May 7, 1919, at the family farm south of Grenora, N.D., the 10th child of 11 children born to Henry and Mary (Krogslien) Folvag. With her family nearby, she quietly slipped away to the home she so anxiously awaited. Mother was born May 7, 1919, at the family farm south of Grenora, N.D., the 10th child of 11 children born to Henry and Mary (Krogslien) Folvag. Bertha was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Scandia Church, south of Grenora. She was raised and educated in Grenora, and moved to the Froid community in 1936. On Oct. 5, 1944, Bertha was united in marriage to Edgar Waters. They lived and farmed on the Waters homestead east of Froid. Edgar passed away July 6, 1980. Mom moved to the Froid Fourplex in 1982. She was a member of the Froid Lutheran Church, WELCA, and Ruth Lydia Circle. She enjoyed her church life, quilting and having coffee parties with her friends. Throughout her life Mom enjoyed gardening, family time, and cooking and baking for her family. Her life was centered around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her church. Bertha is survived by one son, Vernon Waters and his wife, Gayle, of Marysville, Wash.; and their family, Dodi (Joe) Milburn, (McKenzie and Cole), Charles Ostby (Madison), Jim Ostby and Timothy Waters; her four daughters, Virginia Wass and her husband Orville, of Apple Valley, Minn.; and their family Julie (Jonathan) Gration (Jonathan III and Madeline), and Jill Wass; Gloria Giese and her husband Craig, of Froid; and their family, Dusty Waters (Jade and Tavyn); Clarice Challstrom of Froid and her family, Traci (Dan) Kjelshus, (Robert and Patrick), and Charles Challstrom; Debra Rasmussen and her husband Gary, of Culbertson; and their family, Rae Lin Hove, (Trenten, Olivia, Grace, and Verlyn), Kale (Kysa) Rasmussen (Christian, Aiden and Isla) and Bart Rasmussen. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Madelyn Folvag of Grenora and Katy Waters of Froid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; son-in law Shorty Challstrom; her parents, Henry and Mary; siblings Julian, Lloyd H., Melba, Hilda (Carl) Haugen, Esther (Fred) Waller, Emmer, Lloyd (Pauline), Dora (Ed) Johnson, Alma (Ralph) Peterson, and Helen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Verna Waters; brothers-in-law Francis, Vernon and George Waters. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Froid Lutheran Church, and Pastor Clarice Beery will officiate at memorial services at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday July 3. Interment of cremated remains will be in the Froid South Cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
