Read More	Bertha G. Decker: 1903 —1993 Former South Routt school board member Bertha G. "Birdie" Decker died May 15, 1993, Routt at Memorial Hospital in Steamboat Springs. She was 90. Birdie was bom on March 1, 1903, in Minden, Nebr., the daughter of Winfield S. and Bertha (Bone) Perry. She moved with her family to the Toponas area at the age of eight. She attended school in Toponas and one year of high school in Yampa. On Nov. 4, 1920, Birdie married Ivan Decker in Steamboat Springs. She and her husband lived in the Toponas area for the rest of their lives. He died on Jan. 3, 1985, and shortly thereafter, Birdie moved to Phippsburg to be near her daughter Verna. She was living in Phippsburg at the time of her death. Birdie was a longtime member of the Yampa Bible Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, embroidery, crocheting, quilting, fishing, hunting and gardening. Birdie leaves her daughters Verna (and husband Blaine) Whaley of Phippsburg, Iva (and husband Marvin) Lavin of McCoy; two sons, Clint (and wife Lillian) of Eagle, Idaho, and Ivan P. Decker of Pueblo; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and six great, great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; her parents; two brothers, Ora and Ivan; two sisters, Ollie and Ina; a daughter, Emma Muntzert and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Birdie were held on May 19 at the Yampa Bible Church with Pastor Rod Krey officiating. Prelude and postlude music was provided by Flora Crowner on the piano and Sally Meek on the organ. Mrs. Crowner accompanied pastor Krey as he sang "Sometime we'll Understand," Rod and Jodi Krey sang "Beyond the Sunset" and Kim Robertson sang "We won't have to Cross Jordan Alone". Pallbearers included; Jack Laman, Junior Laman, Lynn Whaley, Robert Randall, Sam Decker and Steve Decker. Among the honorary pallbearers were Dave Deppe, Zane Louthan, Scott Decker, Wayne Carney, Gary Carney, Paul Carney and Chuck Perry. The Steamboat Pilot, Volume 107, Number 46, June 10, 1993.
