Description	:	King, Bertha Leah Detweiler, 90. Born: April 24, 1906, Harper, Kan., to William Eby Detweiler and Emma Francis Shepp Detweiler. At an early age she committed her life to Christ and joined Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, where she was a lifelong member. As a child she learned outdoor farm tasks and helped her father care for the animals and crops. At an early age she committed her life to Christ and joined Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, where she was a lifelong member. As a child she learned outdoor farm tasks and helped her father care for the animals and crops. She attended Emporia Teachers College one summer and taught elementary school for two years in the Harper and Argonia areas. On May 4, 1930 she married Arami King. During a part of the five-year period before they had children of their own, Arami and Bertha made home for Alfred Troyer. Betha's home was always open to Alfred and his family, as well as to her own children and their families. Along with being a busy mother of six children who were born in a 10-year period, Bertha taught and gave leadership to the Pleasant Valley Sunday school and was active in women's activities of the church. Bertha died on Nov. 2, 1996. She is survived by her six children: Eldon, Virginia Ediger, Patricia Miller, Phyllis Kauffman, and Roberta Mathes; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister Velma Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arami in 1980; three brothers: Paul, Justice and Ernest; and two sisters, Pearl and Emily. Funeral and burial: Nov. 6, Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, by Royce Vogt.
