Berney were held at the United Methodist Church at Wolbach on Tuesday, April 13, 1971 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Mrs. Victor Grossart and Mrs. Larry Steenson sang "Rock of Ages" and "God Will Take Care of You" accompanied by Mrs. George Jacobson, organist. Pallbearers were Max Trosper, Albert Klein, Carl Lange, Clarence (Bus) Allen, Gerald Perry and James Simdorn. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery. McIntyre Jacobsen Funeral Home of Wolbach had charge of the arrangements. Bertha May Berney, daughter of Arvis and Sarah Kinney was born October 30, 1892 near Wolbach. She attended the former Olive school northeast of Wolbach and grew to womanhood in that area. On Dec 3, 1910 she was united in marriage to John N. Berney at Fullerton. The couple farmed in the Wolbach area for a short time and later moved into Wolbach where they spent most of their married life. Mr. Berney died on October 4, 1952. Mrs. Berney was a member of the Rebekah and the Royal Neighbor Lodges of Wolbach. She died on Friday, April 9, 1971 at a Grand Island hospital at the age of 78 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her son and daughter-in-law Alfred and Doris, her granddaughter Shirley and husband (Mr. & Mrs. Howard Jensen) all of Brighton, Colorado and a grandson, Dennis Berney of Great Falls, Montana. Preceding in death were her husband, a son Arvis J. Berney, parents, and 2 brothers, John and Anson.
