She was born September 6, 1922 in Sherman City, Kansas to Nicholas and Nora Belle (Trammell) Walker and grew up in the area attending school in Sherman City and West Mineral, Kansas. Read More	~~ Bertha Mae Walker Allen September 06, 1922 - December 30, 2008 ~~ Bertha Mae Allen, 86 of The Autumn Place in Columbus, Kansas, formerly of rural McCune, Kansas died Tuesday, December 30 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri, after a short illness. She was born September 6, 1922 in Sherman City, Kansas to Nicholas and Nora Belle (Trammell) Walker and grew up in the area attending school in Sherman City and West Mineral, Kansas. Bertha Mae married Cleo E. Allen of West Mineral, Kansas on February 20, 1940 and they resided for 50 years southwest of McCune. She is survived by her husband Cleo, of the Autumn Place, three sons and their spouses; Cleo Clayton Allen and Dee of Topeka, Kansas, Merle Wayne Allen and Vicky of Joplin, Missouri and Glenn David Allen and Erla of Independence, Kentucky. Also surviving are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Nick and Nora Walker, three sisters, Margaret Woods, Helen Best and Mary Louise Bradfield. Eight brothers, Howard as an infant, Homer, John Alex, Jim, Bob, Nicholas, Paul and Dempsey Walker and, a grandson, Scott Allen. Visitation will be held at the Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus at 1:00 p.m. with services at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009 with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Murdock Funeral Home of Columbus. Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice in care of the funeral home.
