Description	:	IDA GROVE, Iowa -- Bertha Rehse, 98, of Ida Grove died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa. Bertha Marie (Schau) Rehse was born Oct. 24, 1910, on a farm near Battle Creek, Iowa, to Jacob and Meta (Berndt) Schau. She was baptized on Dec. 10, 1910, and confirmed on May 23, 1926, in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school through the eighth grade. As a young lady, Bertha cared for an invalid lady. Read More	IDA GROVE, Iowa -- Bertha Rehse, 98, of Ida Grove died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa. Bertha Marie (Schau) Rehse was born Oct. 24, 1910, on a farm near Battle Creek, Iowa, to Jacob and Meta (Berndt) Schau. She was baptized on Dec. 10, 1910, and confirmed on May 23, 1926, in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school through the eighth grade. As a young lady, Bertha cared for an invalid lady. On Feb. 11, 1936, she married Carl J. Rehse at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The couple lived on a farm southeast of Ida Grove until 1959, then moved into town. Bertha was active with the Horn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and a group of ladies made paraments for the church chancel using a special embroidery stitch. She also did quilting and taught Sunday school. Bertha liked to have fun and especially enjoyed polka dancing, playing cards and cooking. She won a ladies (spike) nail driving contest (three strikes with her hammer) at Battle Creek one Fourth of July. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Chester) Creswell of Blencoe, Iowa, and Charlotte Nichols of Odebolt, Iowa; five grandchildren, Rod Schneider of Ida Grove, Roy Schneider of Sergeant Bluff, Helen Hamag of Denver, Colo., Julie Worthington of New York City, N.Y., and Joann Leto of Johnston, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Rachel Schneider of Ottumwa, Iowa, Brian and Nicholas Worthington of New York City, Sam, Charlie and ClareAnn Leto of Johnston, and Rodney, Randy and Nicki of Sergeant Bluff. Other survivors include a brother, Raymond (Margaret) Schau of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters, Rose (Clarence) Haugsted of Ames, Iowa, and Eunice Nepper of Ida Grove; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Schau and Violet Schau, both of Ida Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Edward, Walter, Henry and Antone Schau; and two sisters, Margie Konradi and Margretha Mauer. Services were 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, with the Rev. Richard Salcido officiating. Burial was in Ida Grove Cemetery.
