Description	:	CUMBERLAND, BERTHA O—Bertha O. Srofe was born in Higginsport, Brown county, Ohio, November 28, 1847. When but a child, she lost her mother suddenly, and also her father a little later in service during the Civil War. She was taken by a good Christian family and at an early age joined the church. She was married to Edwin L. Cumberland, March 2, 1875, moving to Illinois, where they lived until 1882, then coming to Nebraska. Her husband died February 2, 1890. After his death she moved to Geneva, where she has since lived. To this... Read More	CUMBERLAND, BERTHA O—Bertha O. Srofe was born in Higginsport, Brown county, Ohio, November 28, 1847. When but a child, she lost her mother suddenly, and also her father a little later in service during the Civil War. She was taken by a good Christian family and at an early age joined the church. She was married to Edwin L. Cumberland, March 2, 1875, moving to Illinois, where they lived until 1882, then coming to Nebraska. Her husband died February 2, 1890. After his death she moved to Geneva, where she has since lived. To this union were born two children, Emma and E. Lyle, both of Geneva. She was a member of the Methodist church, and an active member until sickness caused her to give up her active work. She was a charter member of the W.R.C. The last few years she was a great sufferer, but was always patient and cheerful. She departed this life January 11, 1921, and is survived by her two children and three grandchildren, Eugene, Judson and LaVerne Cumberland. The funeral took place from the residence at 2:30 Thursday afternoon, January 13, and was conducted by Rev. R.H. Thompson. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal January 20th, 1921 page 1. (The obit lists year of birth as 1847, the headstone 1848. Uncertain which is correct.)
