Lind, (Bertha Skalberg), was born October 4, 1892 at Wausa, Knox County, Nebraska, the third child and the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. August Skalberg, pioneers of the Wausa settlement. Lind, (Bertha Skalberg), was born October 4, 1892 at Wausa, Knox County, Nebraska, the third child and the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. August Skalberg, pioneers of the Wausa settlement. She was baptized that same year. She was confirmed by Rev. F. O. Hultman. As a young lady she attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught school for two and a half years. She was united in marriage to Gust A. Lind on February 18, 1914. To this union three sons and one daughter was born, all live to morn their mother's passing. The Linds farmed west of Wausa for fifteen years, and then after spending two years in Omaha and Sioux city, they moved to what has become to be known as the Lind farm, east of Wausa. They lived here until this spring when they moved into their new home in town. Mrs. Lind has suffered for the last twenty years and has been subjected to numerous operations and much pain. It is nearly two years ago, after their trip to the West coast that she was operated upon for cancer that finally claimed her life. This together with numerous x-ray therapy treatments, brought severe discomforts, but she rallied from these again and again. However the grim reaper was not to be cheated and on Sunday, August 28th at 6:00 AM she passed away at the age of 56 years, 10 months, 24 days. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Gust A. Lind, her sons, Merril of Sioux City, Russell of California, and Sheldon of Wausa, her daughter, Gladys, Mrs. Conrad Berg of Wausa, her mother, Mrs. J. August Skalberg of Wausa, her brothers, Harry of Wausa, Roy at Battle Creek, Vernie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Norris of Phoenix, Arizona, her sisters, Mamie, Mrs. Edward Olson of Pasadena, California, Hazel, Mrs. N. W. Johnson of Hartlingson, Nebraska, Emma, Mrs. Harry Peterson, of Wausa, Crystal, Mrs. Elmer Holmquist of Omaha, and Rose, Mrs. Anthon Swanson of Wausa, one granddaughter, a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her brother David in 1932, and her father in 1937. A faithful wife, a loving mother, and a courageous sufferer, she will be greatly missed. Her welfare has been the concern of many during these years of suffering and she has been much remembered in prayer at church and in family and personal devotions. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 31th, 1949, with services at the home at 2:00 PM, and at the Mission Covenant Church at 2;30 PM, with Pastor B. N. Bengston in charge. Rev. William Hawkinson of Clear Lake, Washington, former pastor of the local Covenant Church and a valued friend of the family was present to give the funeral sermon. Miss Delores Olson sand, "Going Home" and Rev. and Mrs. Bengston sang "Beyond the Sunset." Pall bearers were Anthon Swanson, Harry Peterson, N. W. Johnson, Kimet Holmquist, Harold and Reuban Johnson. Interment was made at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wausa, Knox County, Nebraska. Substantial memorials were given besides the floral offerings. Peace be to her memory.
