The entire community was beholden last Friday when the report spreat that Mr. David Skalberg had passed away. About three months ago he was stricken sick one morning as he was out chopping wood, his trouble being diagnosed as hemmorhage of the brain. He was brough in the Norfolk Hospital at that time where he was under the doctors care for a couple of weeks. He improved sufficiently to be taken back home and hopes were entertained at that time for his complete recovery. However those hopes were soon banished and he again turned for the worse. was taken back to the hospital where he spent another four or five weeks during which time he had a number of hemorrhages and suffered untold pain. The rupture as it was in one of the blood vessels under the brain, an operation was out of the question and the only hopes were if it would heal of its own accord. He did seemingly improve and again brough back to Wausa this time to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Skalberg here in town, as the doctor would then be in closer touch. For a week he seemed to be doing nicely and was steadily growing stronger. But again on Thursday he suffered another hemmorhage and about noon on Friday the angel of death crossed the threshold and took his spirit away to its Maker. Mr. Skalberg was one of our most respected young farmers. A hard working man. He was a kind father and a devoted husband and true Christian character. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, four children; three boys and one girl, Rachel, Donald, Virgil, and Leland. His parents; Mr. and Mrs. J. August Skalberg; four brothers, Harry, Roy, Norris, and Vernie; five sisters, Mrs. Gust Lind, Mrs. N. W. Johnson, Mrs. Edward Oson, Mrs. Harry Peterson, Crystal and Rose Skalberg. Funeral services were conducted last Monday afternoon, first from the Skalberg home, then from the Lutheran Chruch, Ray A. E. Olson, pastor of the church delivering a message in the English, using as his text the 23rd Psalms, Rev. O. B. Olson, pastor of the local Mission church delivered a sermon in the Swedish, basing his remarkds on the 7th verse of the 13th chapter of St. John. Three selections were rendered by a male quartet. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery. Peace be to his memory. David Emmanuel Skalberg was born on the 4th day of March, 1897 at Wausa, Nebraska, where he grew to young manhood and received his education. He was confirmed in the Mission church. On the 11th day of May, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Hildur Larson, and to this union were born four children. In the spring of 1918, the young couple moved to Ulen, Minnesota, where they resided on a farm until in the fall of 1923, when they moved to back to Wausa, moving on to the old home farm in the community and where they have since made their home. He joined the Lutheran church on February 27th, 1926, and of which he was a member at the time of his death, which occured on Friday, December 30th at an age of 35 years, 9 months, and 24 days. Besides the members of the immediate family he leaves to mourn a large number of relatives and a host of friends.
