Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Linton, ND with Rev. Gary Benz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, ND where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Thursday. Bertha was born October 14, 1920 in Strasburg, ND, the daughter of Wendelin and Barbara (Baumgartner) Wikenheiser. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Strasburg High School. She married Theophil “Teoph” Balliet in Wibaux, MT on November 23, 1942. Bertha graduated from Ellendale Teacher’s College and later from the University of Mary in 1966 with a degree in Education. Bertha was a school teacher for a number of rural schools and at St. Anthony’s Catholic School. She taught at Linton Public School until retiring in 1986. Bertha enjoyed gardening, ceramics, crocheting, needlework, playing cards, traveling and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters and the ND Educator’s Association. Bertha is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law: Richard & Patti Peterson-Balliet of Avondale, AZ, Doug & Kathy Balliet of Bismarck, ND, Les & Paula Balliet of Ivins, UT and Dr. Paul & Paula Balliet of Bismarck, ND; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Carol & Tom Schwartz of Beulah, ND, Debbie Hentges of Atwater, MN, Janice Bosch of Bozeman, MT and Mary & Richard Kelsch of Bismarck, ND; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law: Clarence & Nina Wikenheiser of Strasburg, ND; two sisters: Victoria Voller of Strasburg, ND and Eleanor Ledger of Bismarck, ND as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Teoph in 2007, one son James Balliet, and three brothers, William, Alois, and Ray.
