Bessie was born on June 15, 1915 to William G. and Catherine A. (Hansen) Kohl in Clarks, Nebraska. Bessie grew up in the Clarks area and attended District 7 School. She married Alvin R. Peterson on March 28, 1938 in Columbus, Nebraska. The couple farmed for ten years near Clarks until they moved to town. They owned and operated Al’s Tavern for twenty-one years before deciding to retire. After a few months of retirement, she bought the Clarks Cafe and later ran it as a bottle club called Kitties. She owned and operated that for the next ten years at which she retired again. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Clarks. She enjoyed doing crafts and painting by the numbers. She is survived by her nephew and caregivers- Barb and John Kohl of Clarks, NE; many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Alvin; three brothers- Art, Bill and John; four sisters- Martha Darnell, Elsie Grosch, Bettie Monson, and Pauline Hemmer; nieces and nephews.
