Mrs. Harskamp was born to Dick and Aartje (Langerway) Bleyenberg on November 29, 1908, in Sioux Center. She lived her youth and attended school near Sioux Center. She married Jake Harskamp on August 17, 1926, In Canton, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they farmed near Ireton before moving to Sioux Center where they continued to be engaged in farming. They moved into town in 1954. Bessie and Jake served as Janitors at Netherlands Reformed Church for several years. She was a member of Netherlands Reformed Church and a former member of the Dorcas Society. Tatting was one of her special interests. She is survived by her husband; her children. Don and his wife, Patricia, of Storm Lake. Marge and her husband. Bud, of Inwood; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Harskamp of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one brother, Gerrrit Bleyenberg of Rock Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, John, and two great-grandsons in infancy. At the funeral service, Mrs Wayne Davelaar was organist. Congregational hymns were "Come Thou Fount" and "The Lord Our Dwelling Place." 6 Casket bearers were Douglas Harskamp, Andrew Van Kekerix, Dale Lems, Daniel Harskamp, Paul Van Kekerix and Gene Vander Weide. Honorary bearers were Donald D. Harskamp. Donald L. Lems and Edwin Vander Weide. Sioux Center News 1997-12-30.
