Early last Monday morning Miss Bessie Arnold passed from this world to her Celestial home above after an illness covering a period of about four weeks. Early last Monday morning Miss Bessie Arnold passed from this world to her Celestial home above after an illness covering a period of about four weeks. When the call came for a nurse to care for John Ellwanger during a siege of the most virulent case of typhoid fever that has ever attacked one in this community, she volunteered her services, and remained at his bedside until her strength gave out completely and in her weakened physical condition she became prey to the disease. She came home where she had been for the past four weeks hovering between life and death, one day much improved and the next on the border of the “great river.” A complication of heart trouble also assisted in lessening her chances of recovery, and gave the fever an opportunity to destroy her vitality. Miss Arnold by her quiet an unassuming manner endeared herself to the entire community, not only among the social set of our young people, but by everyone young and old. Sufficient evidence of her popularity was evidenced by the floral offerings which were many and beautiful. She was a young lady with a beautiful character and high ideals, and in her desire to be of service to mankind took up the profession of nursing. Entering the Mayo’s hospital at Rochester, Minn., as an apprentice she remained there until her condition demanded a rest and she came home to recuperate. The deceased was born in Ohio, removing with her parents at an early age to Craig, Nebraska, where they remained until about six years ago when they came to Berthold and have since made their home in this locality. The deceased was 24 years and 5 months of age at the date of her death. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church by Rev. Shaw, of Minot, assisted by Rev. Ott, of this city, and despite the inclemency of the weather a large concourse of friends attended the last sad rites. From The Berthold Tribune.
