She was born in Chanute, Kansas on February 21, 1911. She was the daughter of John M. and Annie B. (Roles) Speck. On December 4, 1926, she was united in marriage to Leo Nelson Young at Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1957. Read More	************************************ Published Sept. 28, 2002 - Chanute, KS Bessie Ida Young, 91, passed away at the Chanute Health Care Center, Chanute, Kansas, on Wednesday, September 25, 2002. She was born in Chanute, Kansas on February 21, 1911. She was the daughter of John M. and Annie B. (Roles) Speck. On December 4, 1926, she was united in marriage to Leo Nelson Young at Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1957. She was a lifelong area resident with the exception of a two-year period from 1985 to 1987 when she lived in Virginia Beach, VA, with her daughter, Bessie Lee. Bessie was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was very active as a local volunteer until her eyesight started to fail. Surviving Bessie are her sons Kenneth E. Young of Friends, TX, and Jerry W. Young of Houston, TX. Also surviving are several grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo; daughter Bessie Lee Herder; granddaughter Connie Sue Goss; grandsons Jerry Young, Jr., and Alan Herder; sister Rosanna Stephens; and brothers, Lewis Speck and Glenn Speck. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene Monday, September 30, 2002 with Pastor Mark McCuistion officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene and may be left in care of Johson Mortuary. Penwell-Gabel - Johnson Chapel of Chanute, Kansas is in charge of arrangements. ***********************************
