Pallbearers were Joe Abbenhaus, Kevin Baller, Dwain Stacken, Mike Baller, Lonnie Opkis and Daryl Stacken. Honorary pallbearers were Leslie Baller, Charles Lange Jr., Drew Nelson, Barry Kruse, James Abbenhaus and James Stacken. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Creighton. Bessie Irene Stacken, the daughter of George P. and Maretta (Linkswiler) Smith, was born January 10, 1900 at Sloan, IA. She died Tuesday, November 28, 1989 at the Creighton Care Centre at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 18 days. At the age of three, the family moved to a farm southwest of Bloomfield, where she was raised. She had attended a rural Bloomfield school. On December 7, 1922 she married J.C. Stacken at Center. To this union three daughters, Alice, Ruth and Luella and one son, James were born. In 1925 they moved to the family farm 10 miles northeast of Creighton, where they resided until 1960, when they moved to Creighton. Bessie loved to garden and raise chickens. She had worked at the Lundberg Memorial Hospital as a cook for several years. She had resided at the Creighton Care Centre since July of 1981. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Alice) Lange of Randolph, Mrs. Hans (Ruth) Wagner of Bloomfield and Mrs. James (Luella) Veenker of Creighton; daughter-in-law, Fern Stacken of Creighton; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1970, her son, James, two brothers, two sisters and a great granddaughter.
