Read More	The Stettler Independent - Wednesday, 24 Feb 1971, page 10 BALL, Bessie Lillis (nee Friend) - An early pioneer resident of the Botha district, Mrs. Bessie Lillis Ball passed away at the Dr. A. E. Kennedy Auxiliary Hospital in Stettler on Tuesday, February 16th, 1971, following a lengthy illness. She was 84 years of age. Bessie Lillis Friend was born in Wichita, Kansas, USA, on November 7th, 1886, the daughter of Edward and Alice Friend. The family moved to Alberta in 1903 and settled in the Blue Ridge district. On February 5th, 1908 Bessie was united in marriage to Raymond Johsua Ball and to this union, four children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Ball farmed in the district until moving to Botha in 1954. Mrs. Ball was predeceased by her husband Ray on October 25th, 1958. She had continued to make her home in Botha until her passing. Mrs. Ball was very active in the community and especially in the work of her church. She was a Charter member of the Botha W.M.S. and the Botha W.I. and a Life Member of both organizations as well as the U.C.W. She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving children Ronald of Botha; Mrs. Edna Kenny of Botha; Betty, Mrs. Walter Hart of Morningside; and Bruce of Botha as well as thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Botha United Church on Friday, February 19th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Alan J. Smith and Rev. William A. Wright officiating. Interment followed at the Woodland Cemetery at Botha. Honorary Bearers were Bob Hannaford, Mel Groves, Waler Zipse, Frank Townsend, Ward Snyder and Ed Hannaford. Active pallbearers were Jack Temple, Lester Strandquist, Art Wuschke, Morley Groves, Vern Hinkle and Russ Church. Brennen Funeral Home of Stettler was in charge of the arrangements.
