Forbes, 71, who passed away at University Hospital, Friday, September 29. Bessie N. Petsel Forbes, the daughter of John and Nettie Korous Soukup, was born June 30, 1890 at Riverside. She was married to Albert Petsel in 1910 and they were the parents of five children. Later she was married to Clarence Forbes in 1940. The couple lived in the Conesville vicinity until several years ago when they moved to a home in Lone Tree. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Lloyd of Des Moines, Robert of Lone Tree, Albert of Cedar Rapids and DeWayne of Plainfield, Indiana; one daughter, Mrs. Wendell (Viola) Winders of Montour, three sisters: Mrs. Rose Karel, Iowa City, Mrs. Anna Krotz, Riverside and Mrs. Tillie Vondrasek of Washington. Nine grandchildren also survive. Services were held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon with Rev. Jerry Brown officiating. Organ selections, “The Old Rugged Cross,” and " In the Garden,” were played by Mrs. Earl Rife. Pallbearers for the service were James Stock, Clifford Murdock, Reid Ford, Lester Bell, Emmett Bird, George Hasley. Flower helpers were Mrs. Edgar Lewis Sr., Mrs. Louise Forbes and Mrs. Clifford Murdock. The body remained at the Sorden and Adams Funeral Chapel until time of the service. Interment was in the Lone Tree Cemetery.
