She was born June 20, 1930 to John Theodore and Ida Leona (Rhinehart) Hysell in Meadow, South Dakota. At an early age her family moved to Washington and Bess received her education in Kennewick, WA. Read More	Bessie Rae 'Bess' Smith age 77 of Benton City, WA passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Orchard House in Grandview, WA. She was born June 20, 1930 to John Theodore and Ida Leona (Rhinehart) Hysell in Meadow, South Dakota. At an early age her family moved to Washington and Bess received her education in Kennewick, WA. On June 27, 1946 she married Bob Smith in Montana. Following their marriage they together made their home in Whitstran where they worked as fruit pickers and owned a farm. The Smith family made their home throughout the Yakima Valley until settling in Benton City in 1973 where they owned and operated a cherry orchard. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Bess enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and board games. She loved to watch T.V. Her favorites included game shows, ice-skating, golf and the animal channel. Bess was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding finches. She is survived by her former husband, Bob Smith of Benton City, WA, two daughters, Vickie Kennedy and husband, Dave of Grandview, WA and Rhonda Gore and husband, Steve of Benton City, WA, 2 sons, Russell Smith and significant other, Teresa of Benton City and Michael Smith and wife, Cathy of Benton City, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Glenn Hysell of Vale, OR, 6 sisters, Arlene Haseth of Sunnyside, WA, Nola Salmonson of Benton City, Joanne Lande of Finley, WA, Carol Cooley of Fresno, CA, Vera Near of Granger, WA and Ayvonne Simon of Shelton, WA and best friend, Vickie Youngblood. She is preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, Bruce Smith, one grandson, Michael William Smith, one great-granddaughter, Morgan Lynn Kennedy, one brother, Virgil Hysell and one sister, Verlis Mitzel. Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, November 19, 2007 from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday, November 20, 2007 from 8:30 A.M. until 12:30 at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at the East Prosser Cemetery, Prosser, WA.
