A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Webster City. Bethel Pollock “Polly” Buell, daughter of Scott Tidrick Pollock and Cora Badker Pollock, was born in Garner, Iowa, on March 19, 1922. She attended school in Garner, graduated from Garner High School, and received her degree in Music Education from State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1943. She taught music for one year in Hartley, Iowa before becoming the Music Supervisor in the Webster City schools from 1944-1947. She taught vocal music at Iowa Central Community College during the 1948-49 school year. From 1950-1975, she directed the Webster City Men’s Chorus. During that time, she was privileged to host and direct the Iowa State Men’s Chorus Festival in Webster City on three different occasions. She directed the choir at the First Congregational Church in Webster City from 1947-1955 and 1958-1993. Several piano and voice students studied with her privately. She married Herbert Joseph Buell Jr. in the First Congregational Church on June 4, 1947. They have one daughter, Nancy. Mrs. Buell was a member of PEO Chapter JE, the First Congregational Church UCC, the American Choral Directors Asssociation, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, and the Iowa Choral Directors Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herbert Joseph Buell Jr., and her infant grandson, Nathan Ray Reasland. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Ray) Reasland, Lisbon; her brother, Clarke Pollock of Garner, Iowa, two grandsons, Neal Reasland of Lisbon and Aaron Reasland of Iowa City; and a bond brother, Roy (Ann) Barlow, Tulsa, Okla. She will be remembered for her musical gifts, her ability to share her passion of music with all who knew her, her strong love of family and friends, and her deep and abiding Christian faith .
