Description	:	Mrs. Bethiah Brown, whose death occurred in Sioux City on Wednesday, last, was one of Washington township's oldest settlers, having settled upon the farm now occupied by her son-in-law, John Love, in 1875. It was here she made her home until about a year ago. She was as a maiden Bethiah Moore and of Canadian birth, having been born at Sparta eighty-six years ago. Read More	Mrs. Bethiah Brown, whose death occurred in Sioux City on Wednesday, last, was one of Washington township's oldest settlers, having settled upon the farm now occupied by her son-in-law, John Love, in 1875. It was here she made her home until about a year ago. She was as a maiden Bethiah Moore and of Canadian birth, having been born at Sparta eighty-six years ago. Reared under the faith of the Friends though later in life becoming an adherent of the Episcopal creed, she clang to the last to the quiet and peaceful ways of the Quaker and was endured to all whom she knew by kindly words and blessed deeds. She braved many hardships in her life, having been left a widow at the time of the rebellion with six children her first husband dying from injuries received. John Brown, to whom she was married in 1867, came here with her from Minnesota. Two children, Mrs. John Love and Mrs. Wm. McKitterick were born to this marriage and reside here. Mrs. Gray, of Stockton, Minn.; Mrs. Meinyer, of Rapid City, and Mrs. Gusloff of Sioux City, daughters of the first marriage were unable to attend the funeral Saturday, April 24th, at the Presbyterian church in LeMars. The sons, Melvin Norton and wife, of Wayne, Neb., Egbert Norton, of Sioux City, and Homer Norton, of Washington township, all gathered with other relatives at the last sad rites. Four generations had been a pleasure and pride to her years. Her last illness of six months' duration, due to the infirmities of age, made her a great sufferer. But twenty hours before her death she expressed regret of having become a burden to other and expressed her gratitude that would last but one more night, an assertion that proved true for she passed away before twilight of the second day. Interment was made in LeMars by the side of her husband, Mr. Brown, who died on October 19, 1889. Thos. Love, Samuel Diediker, A.M. Duus, A. McClitock, Andrew Thompson and Jas.
