Mrs. Betsey Churchill Passed Away in Lincoln Thursday, Dec. 15. Mrs. Betsey Churchill, who resided in Butler county and David City in the early days, mother of Mrs. Roy B. Coe of David City, passed away in Lincoln on Thursday, Dec. 15, from sclerosis of the liver. She had been in poor health for some time, due to her advanced age, 90 years, 3 months and 14 days. Funeral services were held in David City Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.G. Hooper. Three hymns, Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "Shall We Gather at the River?" and "Abide With Me," were sung by a quartet, Mrs. E.W. Haight, Mrs. R.B. Sweenie, E.W. Haight and George Ball, Mrs. Frank Maule at the piano. Ben W. Brown, W.E. Ball, George Ball and George McKnight were the pallbearers. Interment was in the David City cemetery. Coming from elsewhere to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George McKnight and daughter, Mrs. Ben Snyder, and Mr. and Mrs. Parker Stephens, from Rising City. Mrs. McKnight and Mr. Stephens are niece and nephew of Mrs. Churchill. Betsey Ann Stephens was Mrs. Churchill's maiden name. She was born in Erie, Pa., August 31, 1837. She was married to Charles B. Churchill about the year 1857. They came to Butler county in 1870 and resided here until 1893, when they moved to California. Mr. Churchill died some 10 years ago. Mrs. Churchill had resided in Lincoln for several months before her death. Surviving Mrs. Churchill are three children, two sons and one daughter. They are Ed Churchill, who lives in California, George Churchill of Prairie City, Iowa, and Mrs. R.B. Churchill were held at the Baptist church in this city at two o'clock Friday afternoon, Rev. Hooper officiating. Mrs. Churchill, mother of Mrs. Roy B. Coe of this city, passed away at Lincoln at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 14 days. She had been in failing health for some five years but was bedfast only one week prior to her passing on December 15th. Death was due to sclerosis of the liver. Mrs. Churchill was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1837, and was united in marriage to Carhles B. Churchill. To this union were born three [sic] children, Mrs. Coe of this city, Ed, living in California, George, living in Prairie City, Iowa. Mrs. Coe was the only one who was at her mothers bedside and at the funeral services. Mr. Churchill passed away ten years ago leaving his wife in her old age. In 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Churchill came to Nebraska and in 1893 went to California where they lived for many years. Mrs. Churchill made her home in Lincoln only the past eight months. Pall bearers were George McKnight, Ben Brown, Wm. Ball and George Ball. Singers were Mrs. Flora Haight, Mrs. R.B. Sweenie, George Ball and Elmer Haight accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ruth Maule. They sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Shall We Gather at the River" and "Abide With Me." Burial took place in the David City cemetery.
