Description	:	Bette Darlene Smith – loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend – went peacefully to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of February 21, 2009. Bette was checked into the ICU at Sunnyside Community Hospital on Valentines Day. Her family traveled from across the west coast to be at her bedside in her last days. Read More	Bette Darlene Smith – loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend – went peacefully to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of February 21, 2009. Bette was checked into the ICU at Sunnyside Community Hospital on Valentines Day. Her family traveled from across the west coast to be at her bedside in her last days. Bette was born on August 30, 1925 in South Dakota to Ralph and Agnes McCulloch. She spent her early youth in the Midwest before moving to Washington State. They settled in Sunnyside and she graduated there with the Class of 1943. Bette was always free spirited and after graduating high school she traveled to Spokane, Seattle, and Florida. She met her husband, George Smith, thru a mutual friend. They dated until August 20, 1950, when they joined in matrimony. George passed away in 1965 and Bette raised her children on her own. Kevin Nehls was the first of seven grandchildren and Bette was a favorite grandmother amongst the extended family. Christmas and Thanksgiving were almost always spent at her home. Bette is survived by all three of her children; Craig Smith, Cheryl Nehls and Cindy Baker; her sister Arlene Washenik; seven grandchildren – Kevin and Jamie Nehls; Steven and Sharon Smith; and Bradford, Amanda, and Riley George Baker; her son-in-law Larry Nehls and her daughter-in-law Linda Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband; her son-in-law Don Baker; her mother and father; and two sisters – Velma Berg and Gladyce Williams. Viewing and Visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. and Friday, February 27, 2009 from 8:30 until 1:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 27, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, WA.
