Hakes on August 11, 1951. He preceded her in death on Friday, July 25, 2014.Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homer. Read More	Betty Ann Hakes, 87, of Homer, died Friday, October 10, 2014.She was born September 30, 1927, in Albion, Michigan, to Leila Pearl Evans and John Hickerson. She married Melvin K. Hakes on August 11, 1951. He preceded her in death on Friday, July 25, 2014.Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homer. She enjoyed spending time with family, including her daughters and their families. She worked hard her whole life to put others first. Her excellent cooking will be missed by all. She graduated from Homer High School in 1945 and worked at State Farm Insurance in Marshall, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Presbyterian Etta Prentiss Circle.She was preceded in death by her husband; siblings, Archie Hickerson, Jack Hickerson, Charles (Bill) Hickerson, Dorothy (Dot) Clark and Barbara Dubert; stepfather, Herb Evans; and niece, Kathy A. Mills.She is survived by her daughters, Dianna Porter (William) and Pamela Thomas; grandchildren, Julia (Kyle Wurtzel) Porter, Jennifer (Adam) Tilley, Jackie Porter, Dustin Thomas, Sara Thomas and Natasha Summerfield; great-granddaughter, Linley; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at Craig Kempf Funeral Home, Homer Chapel, 303 S. Hillsdale St., Homer. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Homer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kathy Hickerson-Mills Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Homer High School Alumni Association.
