He in turn consulted with other... Read More	BETTY HOPKINS PASSES Community Grieves With Parents and Relatives. Betty Hopkins, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hopkins passed away at the tender age of 12 at the Harken Hospital in Osceola Monday afternoon after an illness of two weeks, of blood stream infection, which was the result of an abscess which formed on her leg. When she became ill she was taken to the hospital that she might have the best of care. One of the best recognized blood specialists in the state was called in consultation. He in turn consulted with other specialists who together directed the procedure that was adopted in the treatment of the case. Everything possible was done to combat the poison but to no avail. A parallel case was in the death of the former President Coolidge's son of the same type of poisoning. Her parents were with her constantly throughout her illness, and they, with her uncle, T. B Nicholson, and her pastor Blair Jenson, were with her when her end came. Betty was born in Lamoni and all of her short life was spent here where she was loved by her teachers and schoolmates because of her cheerful and loving disposition. Her home was a gathering place for her friends and all the children of the neighborhood. The funeral service held attested the love held for Betty and her family. The Coliseum foyer was banked with beautiful floral tributes from friends of the family and schoolmates. Her parents, brother Billy, together with the grandparents, have the sympathy of the entire community who grieve with them the passing of one of its promising young characters. The services were held in the Coliseum Wednesday afternoon with Roy A. Cheville in charge. Elder Blair Jensen preaching the sermon. Mrs. Wanda Derry sang, "Leave It With Him," and an octet furnished soft music. The Girl Scout troop of which Betty was a member attended the service in a body, as well as her class, the seventh grade, and the public school teachers who were dismissed for the service. The pall bearers were: David A. Dancer, Arthur Derry, Ralph Deny, Martin Hynden, Earl Rauch, and Kenneth Scott. Relatives attending the service from out-of-town were: Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Nicholson, Mrs. Carl Nicholson, Kenneth and Blair Nicholson from Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Smith, G. L. Jr., and Floralee from Independence, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Myers of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. F. F Hopkins of Shenandoah. C. E. Erickson and Kenneth Cash from the company Mr. Hopkins is employed with in Des Moines were also in attendance.
