Pastor Dan Lindeman will officiate with burial at the Greenhill Cemetery. (Hammer) Bishop was born on December 10, 1933 in Athboy, South Dakota. She was the daughter of the late and Alf and Albina (Adamek) Hammer. Betty attended school in Lemmon, South Dakota and was a proud graduate and salutatorian of the class of 1951. Following High School, she worked for the Lemmon Clinic as receptionist and bookkeeper. She was proficient at short hand and maintained that skill throughout her lifetime. She married Paul Bishop on February 9, 1957. They spent 25 years residing and rearing their children in Bison, South Dakota, where she was employed by the Grand Electric and West River Telephone Cooperatives as an accountant. Betty was a faithful member of the Lemmon Church of God and the Lemmon Church of God Choir. During those years she was also an active member of the "Town and Country" extension program homemaker's club. In 1984, the family moved to Huron where she was employed at the Dakotaland Credit Union until her retirement in 1994. Betty Bishop and her husband Paul retired to Cleveland, Tennessee to build their lakeside dream home where she spent many, many hours tending and enjoying her beautiful flower gardens and decorating her home. She was a member of the Westmore Church of God and a group leader for the women's Bible study group. Betty went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at her home, surrounded by loving family. Survivors include her husband and love of her life, Paul Bishop of Cleveland, Tennessee her children, Barbara Carpenter and her husband Bill of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Susan Bishop of Tacoma, Washington and Bradley Bishop and his wife Kerry of Rapid City, South Dakota, her pride and joy were her 6 grandchildren, Braden, Caylan and Carissa Carpenter and Bethany, Brett and Briauna Bishop, her great grandson, whom she was happy to meet prior to her passing, Landon Carpenter, her sister, Aldene Nash, McMillan, Washington and her brother, Norman Hammer of Pacific, Washington. She loved her "grand-dogs" and considered them part of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alf and Albina Hammer and two siblings in infancy. A Memorial for Mrs. Bishop has been established with the International Myeloma Foundation at www.myeloma.org.
