Betty was born on April 7, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Tena (Bleeker) Boyenga in Geneva, Iowa. She graduated from Ackley High School, Class of 1945. She attended Cadet Nursing School in Marshalltown. Betty married James Wilkens on April 28, 1946, in Ackley. Betty worked at Younkers from 1961 to 1969 and later worked at Lennox for 9½ years. She was primarily a homemaker. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church, PTA, Womens Christian Club, Choir, Deaconess, and a Sunday School teacher for 17 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jim, working on crafts, and always loved to decorate. She was very family originated. Betty is survived by her three daughters, DeAnne Knaack of Marshalltown, Vicki (Dennis) Underhill of Le Grand, Iowa, Nancy (Dan) Slocum of Independence, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, Jim; a daughter, Susan; son in-law, Bill Knaack; and a grand daughter, Angela Lukehart. Anderson Funeral Homes, Marshalltown, Iowa∼Funeral services for Betty J. Wilkens, 93, were held on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Anderson Funeral Homes, Marshalltown, Iowa, with Rev. Jake Rosekopf officiating. Pallbearers were Chris Braye, Nate Lukehart, Mike Bristley, Ben Bristley, Phil Boyenga, and Chuck Moren. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Slocum, Tony Slocum, Mark Medhus, and Denny Underhill.
