Description	:	WOOD RIVER — Betty Jane Gibson-Peterson Wells, 92, formerly of Central City, entered heaven's gate on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with Pastor Jay Towell officiating. Interment is in the Central City Cemetery. Read More	WOOD RIVER — Betty Jane Gibson-Peterson Wells, 92, formerly of Central City, entered heaven's gate on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with Pastor Jay Towell officiating. Interment is in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Betty was born on March 22, 1921, in Nebraska to George Ray and Edith (Allsman) Gibson. She grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School, and then she spent a year at the St. Ursula Academy in York. She graduated from the academy, gaining recognition for her typing skills. She planned to attend college in Kearney the following fall. Betty worked as a stenographer at the Kearney Post Office and later was the office manager for her father's business, Kearney Roofing Company. Betty was united in marriage to Alfred Leonard Peterson in 1941. They shared the ups and downs of World War II. During those years, Betty was a homemaker, later working at Brodkey Jewelry Store. Betty and Clarence Eugene Wells were married on Sept. 1, 1971, in Kearney. They moved to Colorado and later spent 25 years in Las Vegas, Nev., where they were apartment managers. They returned to Nebraska in 2000 to live in Central City and to Grand Island in 2007. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and homemaker. Many family memories were shared each holiday at the family table and everyone especially enjoyed Betty's peanut butter fudge. Betty loved caring for God's creatures. She had a special black cat at Good Samaritan that brought her comfort many days. She also enjoyed bingo and getting her hair fixed. Betty had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Central City. While living at Good Samaritan, she enjoyed the hymns and devotions. Betty's family appreciated the care and comfort given to their precious family member by the Good Samaritan Society staff in Wood River and Asera Care Hospice. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Uhrich of Grand Island; grandchildren Greg, Chris, Troy, Kim and Steve; great-grandchildren Quentin, Marissa, Angel (Connie), Tim, Shavonne, Raiden and Siera; and great-great-grandchildren Kenslie, twins Aubrey and Bailey (due in December), Alyas, Brooklyn, Bradyn, Serenity, Ethyn, Eli, Jaydin, Gage and Electra. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ray in 1972 and Edith in 1990; her brother, Don in 1975; a sister, Edith in 1981; her first husband, Alfred Peterson in 1981; and her second husband, Clarence "Gene" Wells in 2010. With a sigh and a smile Mother left this world, letting us know she was happy and at peace, reminding us; Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road, To sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn something, But never meant to stay. Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, For some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, We'll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord.
