As a young lady, she was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Atlanta. She traveled with her husband while he served in the U. S. Military. She returned to Cleveland and worked at the Sears Mail Order Store and Hysinger Florist. She worked at Central Service Association until she retired. Read More	Cleveland Daily Banner Betty Jean Geren, 81, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday morning, March 12, 2011 in a local health care facility. As a young lady, she was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Atlanta. She traveled with her husband while he served in the U. S. Military. She returned to Cleveland and worked at the Sears Mail Order Store and Hysinger Florist. She worked at Central Service Association until she retired. She loved children and working in her flower garden. She was a 50-year member of the Clingan Ridge Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Inez Bryan Brand and Homer Brand. She was also preceded in death by brothers: Alton, J. B. and Charles Brand. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Luther Geren of Cleveland; her daughter, Darlene Akins and her husband, Don, of Cleveland; her son, Eddie Geren and his wife, Elaine, of Calhoun; her grandchildren and their spouses: Juliah Humphreys and Mitchell, Jennifer Akins, Emily and Coby Goins, all of Cleveland, Crystle and David Wright of Riceville and Shelley Geren of Knoxville; great-grandchildren: Taylor and her husband, Brian Brooks, of Benton, Mackenzie Suits, Chelsey Humphreys and Luke Goins of Cleveland and Carlie Ann Wright of Riceville; her great-great-grandson, Micah Brooks of Benton; her sister, Nancy Snead of Boaz, Ala.; her sister-in-law, Juliah Ann Collins and her husband, Joe, of Cleveland; brothers-in-law and their spouses: D. L. Geren of Cleveland, Tresley and Wynona Geren of Chattanooga; her sister-in-law, Betty C. Geren; and special friends, nieces and nephews. The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted this evening, March 13, 2011, at 7 from the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Terry Geren officiating. Graveside service and Interment will be conducted Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Candies Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Mackenzie Suits, Joe-Joe Collins, Cory Collins, Mitchell Humphreys, Coby Goins and David Wright serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p. m. today at the funeral home.
