Betty was born Oct. 25, 1930, to Charles and Henrietta Martens in a sod house west of Ekalaka, Mont. She grew up on the ranch where she was born and attended country school. Read More	GILLETTE, Wyo. — Betty Jean (Martens) Hutton, 79, peacefully left this world Sunday, April 25, 2010, for her final journey home. Betty was born Oct. 25, 1930, to Charles and Henrietta Martens in a sod house west of Ekalaka, Mont. She grew up on the ranch where she was born and attended country school. After graduating from high school in Ekalaka, she obtained her teaching certificate and taught for a year. During this time she met and married her mate, Robert "Bob" Hutton, on Nov. 9, 1949. She was a dedicated wife of 54 years and a loving mother to six boys. She and Bob spent most of this time on the family ranch where they raised their family. In 1987, they moved to Gillette, where Bob worked part time, still keeping their ranch in Montana and returning to it every summer. Bob and Betty both worked the ranch, raising wheat and cattle. She was an avid ranch wife, raising a big garden, milking cows, along with helping her husband haul grain or plow the fields. Her days never ended until the sun was setting. Her coffee pot was always on for anyone that came by. She baked breads and pies and entertained neighbors. She had a deep love for her Montana home and showed that love for home, family and friends in her humble but strong character. She loved her flowers, lilacs bushes, birds and her trees. She would relate stories to loved ones about when she and her brother, John, were little. When Johnnie would get in trouble, she would faint so mom would not punish him. Mom forgot all about the trouble he was in and tended to Betty. Betty and John used to make mud pies and set them on the fence to dry and she would make Johnnie eat them. Betty was a very quiet, soft spoken person with a deep commitment to family and a need to accomplish any task at hand and was loved by all. She was a good friend to many and will be missed by her family and all who knew her. We know that she is now at peace with the angels and all her family that passed before her. We wish her well in her journey to a life of joy and love and though we who are left behind will miss her, she will be with us in spirit. Betty is survived by five sons, Ken (Pam), Kerry (Carla), Tim (Margie), Tom (Dena), and Bill (Mary Jo); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Cervantes and Julie (Terry) Kullbom; sisters-in-law, Kathy Martens and Jennie Klasna; brother-in-law, Jim (Gloria) Hutton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at Pioneer Manor. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Ekalaka Bible Church. Burial will follow at the Beaver Lodge Cemetery in Ekalaka. A meal will be served following burial.
