Description	:	Betty Jean Sorensen was born in Audubon County to Lona and Bea Slayton on December 12, 1930. They moved to Guthrie County where Betty was raised with four brothers and one sister. She attended Guthrie Center High School and graduated in 1949. She played 6 on 6 basketball, appearing at state 2 times. She worked on the family farm, and raised thoroughbred race horses with the family. Read More	Betty Jean Sorensen was born in Audubon County to Lona and Bea Slayton on December 12, 1930. They moved to Guthrie County where Betty was raised with four brothers and one sister. She attended Guthrie Center High School and graduated in 1949. She played 6 on 6 basketball, appearing at state 2 times. She worked on the family farm, and raised thoroughbred race horses with the family. She married Milo Sorensen, September 28, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, following his service in the Army. They bought a farm north of Guthrie Center, where they raised their two sons and two daughters. They loved attending their children and grandchildren’s school activities. They frequently played cards and drank coffee with their friends and neighbors. Betty’s homemade chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and noodles were family favorites. Milo and Betty moved from the farm in 2006 and bought a condo in Guthrie Center. Betty entered the New Homestead in 2014 where she resided until her death on August 3. Betty is survived by her children, Marcia, Craig (Kristi), Steve (Linda), Sheri (Paul). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andy (Julie), Ali (Cary), Joel, Amy, Curtis (Laura), Jordan (Erik), Tyler (Amy), Kelly (Andrew), Jacob. Betty is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren and her brother, Harold(Janet). She will be missed by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Milo; son-in-law, Bill Priestley; brothers, Glen, Dale and Donnie Slayton and their spouses; and sister, Helen(Wayne) Matherly.
