Sorensen, 87, son of Soren & Anna (Juhl*) Sorensen, was born December 8, 1926 on a farm west of Wichita in northwestern Guthrie County. He passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the New Homestead, Guthrie Center. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1944. Milo served in the United States Army on the Aleutian Islands from 1945-46. He was united in marriage to Betty Slayton on September 28, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union four children were born:… Marcia, Craig, Steve, and Sheri were born. Milo and Betty moved to a farm north of Guthrie Center in 1953 where they farmed until retirement in 1992. In 2006, they moved into Guthrie Center and finally, Milo moved to the New Homestead in 2013, where he made many new friends. During his working years, Milo raised hogs, cattle, and row crop. He also sold Pioneer Seed, which gave him a chance to practice his favorite pastime: drinking coffee with friends and neighbors. Milo also loved to play cards, go to the horse races, and later, to Prairie Meadows, and he never missed an opportunity to go to the activities of his children or grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Guthrie Center Tigers. Milo was a member of the United Methodist Church and was proud of his membership with the Guthrie Center Legion for 67 years. He also served on the board of the Federal Land Bank and the New Homestead, Guthrie Center. Milo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty of Guthrie Center; their children, Marcia (Bill) Priestly of Guthrie Center; Craig (Kristi) Sorensen of Casper, WY; Steve (Linda Powell) Sorensen of Adel; and Sheri (Paul) Kraus of Lincoln, NE. Nine grandchildren, Andy, Ali, Joel, Amy, Curt, Jordan, Tyler, Jacob, and Kelly; Five great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Claire, Carter, Brynn, and Maddison. Also surviving are in-laws; Dale Slayton, Don Slayton, and Harold (Janet) Slayton. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elvera (Bob) Boldt and Arlene (Veryl) Benton, in-laws Helen (Wayne) Matherly, Glenn Slayton, Betty Slayton, and Fannie Slayton.
