Description	:	Betty Jo Schleif, the daughter of Chauncey and Verna L.(Lee) Peery was born on October 3, 1934 at Aurora, Missouri. She passed away on August 19, 2007 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 16 days. Betty was one of 6 children. She attended grade school at the Brown School, east of Nelson, Nebraska and graduated from Nelson High School. She was united in marriage to Virgil "Kelly" G. Schleif on June 10, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church in Nelson, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 3 children. Schleif on June 10, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church in Nelson, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 3 children. Betty worked for the telephone company and later was employed as the secretary for South Central Public Power in Nelson. Betty was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ and the VFW Auxiliary. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, who loved to follow her children and grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed reading, was a volunteer at the thrift shop, and loved to go to auctions. Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter, Connie and four brothers, Robert, Lawrence "Bud", Russell and Max. She is survived by her husband Virgil "Kelly" Schleif of Nelson, Nebraska; daughter Patty Carlson and husband Corey of Davey, Nebraska and son, Tom and wife Kristi of Osceola, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Kate Panning and husband Travis, Kristie Seybert and husband Josh, Kylie, Justin, and Dan Carlson, Kaitlyn, Laurin, and Christian Schleif; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Helen Miller of Hastings, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 10:00 AM from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating. Music was "He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought," congregational hymn,"In The Garden," and "The Holy City," duet by Kate & Travis Panning and "How Great Thou Art," congregational hymn with Carlita Erickson as organist. Pallbearers were Mike Peery, Ron Peery, Carl Peery, Ron Meyer, Josh Seybert, and Dean Papenhagen. Honorary Pallbearers were Russ Snyder, Max VanSkiver, Boyd McCartney, Craig Cox, Yale Meyer, R.L. Culbertson, Gary Culbertson and Gordon Meyer. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska. A Memorial has been established and may go in care of the family.
