She passed away September 2, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 84. She was married to Paul E. Huscher on August 23, 1950. Betty taught elementary school in Estherville, West Branch and Johnston. She has served her church and community as a member of the Waukee United Methodist Church building committee, as a member of the United Methodist Women, and as a board member of HomeCare, Inc. of Dallas County under which she organized and maintained a group of volunteers to deliver Meals On Wheels for many years in Waukee. Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She liked mystery novels, gardening, and conversation over coffee with her friends. Betty will be remembered for her homemade cinnamon rolls, her quick sense of humor, and her devotion to family. Grandchildren will always remember summers spent at Grandma's house. Betty is survived by her adoring husband and two children, Lyn (Joe) Land and Paul R. (Rick) Huscher; six grandchildren, Andrea Louton, Kyle Thoreson, Casey Thoreson, Jace Thoreson, Jenifer Turso, and Tyler Thoreson; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William Wright and Robert Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Raymond in infancy, and a brother, Bruce Wright. The family received friends at the Waukee United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Waukee United Methodist Church, with burial following at the Waukee Cemetery. Officiating was Pastor Hugh Stone. Musicians were pianist, Kara Boothroyd, and vocalist, Karlene Huscher singing "Amazing Grace". Congregational hymns included "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling". Pallbearers were Kyle Thoreson, Casey Thoreson, Jace Thoreson, Tyler Thoreson, Zachary Louton and Brandon Louton. Online condolences were sent to Brandt Funeral Homes at www.IlesCares.com. Memorial contributions were made to United Methodist Women of the Waukee United Methodist Church.
