He was born on September 25, 1929, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Nellie and Paul L. Huscher. Paul spent his childhood in various communities in Iowa, Oklahoma, and Illinois, where his father served as the Methodist pastor. Paul met the love of his life when he was in high school and his father was assigned the Methodist church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Betty J. Wright lived across the street from the parsonage. They were married on August 23, 1950. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, and his parents. He is survived by two children, Lyn (Joe) Land and Paul R. "Rick" Huscher. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Andrea Louton, Kyle (Debbie) Thoreson, Casey Thoreson, Jace (Alicia) Thoreson, Jenifer Turso, and Tyler Thoreson; eight great-grandchildren: Zachary and Brandon Louton, Isabel Thoreson, Linus Thoreson, Kaeley and Wyatt Thoreson, and Jade and Jordan Turso. Paul loved the Waukee community. He served as Waukee City Attorney 42 years, attaining the distinction of the longest serving city attorney in the state of Iowa. He was also attorney for Waukee Public Schools. His law practice spanned more than 50 years, and he was a charter member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and lifetime member of the Iowa State Bar Association. Paul loved music. He was choir director at Waukee Methodist Church for over 30 years. Paul, along with Mary Allen, started the Waukee Big Band, which has played for more than 30 years at venues ranging from ice cream socials to concerts at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. Paul organized the annual spring variety shows, "Foolin' Around in April." More important to Paul than the things he had done, were the friends he cherished, including the circle of friends that meet every morning for breakfast at McDonalds. Paul was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his stories, his quick sense of humor, his ethics, generosity, love of the law, compassion for his clients, and his purchases of items "as seen on TV." Paul's funeral service will be Tuesday, September 13, 2016, 1:30pm, Waukee United Methodist Church, 650 Ashworth Road, Waukee. Visitation will be 4 to 8pm Monday at church with family receiving friends 5 to 8pm. Burial will be at Waukee Cemetery.
