Description	:	Betty Louise Schluntz, 86, of Republican City died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Republican City with the Revs. John Ross and Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery north of Republican City. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma and before services Thursday at the church. Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Heil and her husband, Mark, of Ulysses, Kan.; sons, Dennis Schluntz and his wife, Sharon, Jay Schluntz and his wife, Mary, and Chris Schluntz and his wife, Kathy, all of rural Republican City, and Ray Schluntz and his wife, Linda, of rural Naponee; brothers, Leon Hadley and his wife, Susie, of Lincoln, Dean Hadley and his wife, Carol, of Arvada, Colo., and John Hadley and his wife, Linda, of Republican City; sisters, Wilma Haussermann of Arapahoe, Mildred Fisher of Grand Junction, Colo., Jean Patterson and her husband, Vern, of Friendship, Wis., Joyce Albers and her husband, Ed, of Franklin, Joan Kruschke and her husband, Lee, of Muskego, Wis., and Sharon Hayter and her husband, Robert, of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Wilma Lennemann and her husband, Jerry, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Debbie Waltemath and her husband, Pat, Tara Heil, Kimberly Heil and Lindsay Schluntz, all of Kearney, Brenda Hudson and her husband, Dwain, and Mandi Shaw, all of Denver, Karen Nelson and her husband, Jeremy, of Bertrand, Bradley Heil of Ulysses, Lori Schluntz of Minden, LeAnn Leidig and her husband, Don, of Phillipsburg, Steven Platt and his wife, Christina, of Huntley, Julie Nelson and her husband, Clarke, of Long Island, Kan., and Evan, Cory and Kate Schluntz of rural Republican City; great-grandchildren, Derek Waltemath of Kearney, Callie and Caleb Leidig of Phillipsburg, August and Ivy Nelson of Bertrand and Ajani Jones of Denver; other relatives; and a host of friends. She was the first child of 13 children. Betty started school at Pleasant Hill Rural School District 95 in northern Phillips County, Kan., and finished her elementary education at Golden Rod Rural School District 58, which was on Prairie Dog Creek in Harlan County. She attended high school at Alma and graduated from high school with the class of 1941. Following high school, Betty worked for the Harold Stone Sr. family in caring for the family. The pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell baptized Betty at age 19 at her parents' home near Minden. Her siblings were all baptized with her at the same time. She and Dexter were married at her parents' home in Phillipsburg. Betty resided with her husband, who was in the military service, when he was stateside and then with her parents in Minden when he was stationed overseas. They made their home on the Schluntz family farm northeast of Republican City after Dexter was discharged from the U.S. Army. Betty had resided on the Schluntz family farm until entering Franklin County Memorial Hospital on June 19, 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a 59-year member of the Republican City American Legion Auxiliary Post, both of Republican City. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father in November 1967; her mother in February 1983; son, Lee in November 1972; daughter, Susan Platt on Oct. 16, 2003; brothers, Dallas Hadley in childhood, Lewis Hadley and his wife, Carol, and Howard Hadley; and brothers-in-law, Eldin Haussermann and Forrest Fisher.
