Betty was born on October 10, 1942, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Sylvia (Stiles) Adair. She was raised in the Shell Rock area where she was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Shell Rock and graduated from Waverly – Shell Rock High School in 1961. Betty then attended Wartburg College, graduating in 1965. On June 25, 1967, Betty was united in marriage to Tom Neal at United Methodist Church in Shell Rock. During her life Betty worked for Spirit Lake Methodist Church as Education Director, as a Secretary at Iowa State University, Ames, Secretary at United Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids, and as a Teacher's Aide in Sioux Rapids. After retiring the couple moved back to rural Shell Rock. Betty was a faithful and devoted member of United Methodist Church in Shell Rock, church pianist for the United Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids, P.E.O., Music Boosters, and Cub Scout Den Mother in Sioux Rapids. Betty had a genuine thoughtfulness about her, often volunteering and looking after others in need. Betty deeply loved her husband and was a devoted mother and grandmother. This was her greatest enjoyment in life. Other things she enjoyed included gardening, canning, bird watching, crafts, sewing, and music. Betty's memory is honored by: her husband, Tom Neal of Shell Rock; two children, Jason (Arin Berkson) Neal of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Amy (Jonathan) Neal Davis of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Henry Neal and Olivia Davis; a brother, Bruce (Jamie) Adair of Decorah; a sister, Sandra (Dean) Soash of Waverly; a brother-in-law, Richard (Karlene) Neal of Clarksville; and a sister-in-law, Rita (Hank) Willson of Shell Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, at United Methodist Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Dan Fernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, at United Methodist Church in Shell Rock where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
