Betty was born July 21, 1925 to Fred and Mildred(Barnhill)Gollaher in Albia. She married Bobby Gene McGinnis on July 2, 1944. To this union two children were born, Robert and Barbara. Read More	Betty Marie McGinnis, age 88 of Hazen, North Dakota formerly of Albia, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Knife River Care Center in Hazen, North Dakota. Betty was born July 21, 1925 to Fred and Mildred(Barnhill)Gollaher in Albia. She married Bobby Gene McGinnis on July 2, 1944. To this union two children were born, Robert and Barbara. They shared nearly 56 years together before his passing on September 12, 2000. Betty attended school in Centerville and Moravia, before graduating from Albia High School. During high school she worked at McLellan's Dime Store, JcPenny's, Iowa State Extension Office, and Iowa Southern Utilities for 24 years, retiring in 1988. Betty was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hilton, IA before becoming a member in Albia. She was also a member of the Business Professional Women and Monroe County Ag Hall of Fame. She enjoyed making ceramics, cross stitching, tole painting, reading and cooking. She was very good at cooking fried chicken. Family was everything to her, and she loved spending time with them. Betty is survived by her two children, Robert(Barb)McGinnis of Winterset and Barb(Dr. Michael)Blacksmith of Hazen, ND; three grandchildren, Chris McGinnis, Josh(Jill)Blacksmith, and Julie(Justin)Cole; and five great grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, and Cael McGinnis, Adeline Blacksmith, and Kinley Cole. She is also survived by three brothers, Bob, Bill and Jerry; a sister, Nancy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents, Fred and Mildred; a sister, Shirley, and a brother, Jack. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia; with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be 2-8 pm, Monday, September 23, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with the family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be made to American diabetes Association.
