Description	:	COTESFIELD — Betty “Jean” Pedersen, 86, of Cotesfield died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Revs. Mark Middendorf and Shawn Kitzing will officiate. Burial will be in the Elba Cemetery at Elba. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pedersen was born May 14, 1928, on the family farm in the Fish Creek area east of Scotia to LeRoy and Ethel (Maxwell) Yax. Survivors of her immediate family include her husband, Albert “Pete” Pedersen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sharon Pedersen of Polk and Chris and Teresa Pedersen of Elba; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanie and Dick Wooden of Ogallala and Christy and Mick Lassen of Cotesfield; and two sisters, Nila Rasmussen of Elba and Levon “Vonnie” Dzingle of Loup City. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new great-grandson); one godchild, Vickie Hughes; numerous nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford and Donna Pedersen of Elba and Dennis Rasmussen of Cotesfield. Jean graduated from Scotia High School in 1945. She cooked at the Yancey Hotel in Grand Island for a few years. She taught country school in Greeley County for several years. In the mid-1960s she worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. Jean sold Stanley products and she also cooked for many years for Nila’s in Elba. Betty Jean was united in marriage to Albert Pedersen on June 10, 1948, at Dannevirke. The couple farmed for 60 years near Dannevirke and, upon retiring, moved into Cotesfield. She moved into Brookefield Park in St. Paul on Aug. 12, 2014. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City and the Dannevirke Dandies Extension Club. Jean enjoyed reading, cooking, canning and her favorite activity was bird watching. She also liked to collect angels. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard Yax; a sister, Maxine Rasmussen; two brothers-in-law, Robert Rasmussen and Don Dzingle; and a sister-in-law, Kay Larson.
