Born in Buffalo, SC, she was the daughter of the late Virgie Wilson Mintz and Robert Adam Mintz. Read More	Gaffney, SC - - Betty Sophia Mintz, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2016 at RoseCrest Retirement Community in Inman. Born in Buffalo, SC, she was the daughter of the late Virgie Wilson Mintz and Robert Adam Mintz. In 1941, Betty received a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Limestone College and earned her Masters of Education from Virginia Tech in 1955. She taught school in the North Carolina School System in Cabarrus County, Anson County and Gaston County. She was a member of the Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (a professional honor society of key women educators in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Japan) and held several offices in the Gaston County Chapter of the NC Education Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney and served as a Sunday school teacher there and in other churches for over 40 years. She was also active in many church organizations, including serving as a volunteer for 13 years in a mission sponsored by First Baptist Church of Gastonia. She is survived by her sister, Joann Mintz Cavanaugh of Charlotte, NC and her three nephews: Richard Cavanaugh and his wife, Jennifer, of Davidson, NC; Craig Cavanaugh of Rockingham, NC and Gary Cavanaugh of Mebane, NC. Also surviving are three great-nieces: Emily Sanders Miller and her husband, Dr. Kevin Miller, of Rock Hill, SC; Cara Sanders Robb and her husband, David, of Clemson, SC; Elise Sanders of Gaffney; her great-nephew Drew Cavanaugh of Davidson, NC and her niece-in-law, Claudia Wray Sanders, of Gaffney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Mintz Sanders, and her nephew, James Robert Sanders, junior. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Frederick Memorial Gardens with Mr. Ashby Blakely, Mr. Richard Cavanaugh and Miss Elise Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the graveside. The family will be at their respective homes.
