Betty was born on September 4, 1920 to Frank and Julia (Dvorak) Tosner in Chicago, Illinois. Betty was the third of six children born to Frank and Julia. Betty attended the Bonnie View, Brown and Little Beaver country schools. She began working upon completion of the eighth grade. She helped out in households when new babies were born as well as in other times of need. She was also a waitress at Doerner's Café for a time. Her face was always familiar to the area residents as she was a checkout clerk for Schweigert's Super Valu, Miller's and Holtan's Super Valu grocery stores over the years as well. Her cheery outlook on life always lifted customer's spirits. Growing up on the Tosner family farm, Betty became friends with a young man named Johnny Glower, who lived with his brother only about one and a half miles away. Betty and John were later married on April 8, 1942 in the Methodist Church in Glendive, Montana and to this union one child, Evelyn, was born. Together they worked and lived on a farm thirteen miles northeast of Beach for three years following their marriage. They then moved to Beach where John worked as a mechanic before purchasing their own place about eight and a half miles north of Beach. Later in 1989, John's health began to fail so he purchased a home in Beach as a present for Betty's birthday. John passed away six years later on May 11, 1995. Betty, a member of the United Community Church in Beach, does needlework and crocheting in her spare time. She has crocheted many rag rugs which are washable as well as attractive. She enjoys gardening and still goes to the farm often. When Betty was asked to give the secret to a happy life she said, "Staying busy, working hard and enjoying my neighbors and friends is my secret for a happy life." Betty will be truly missed by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Julia; her husband, John; two brothers, Frank and Albert Tosner; and three sisters, Helen Hanson, Mary Efta, and Genevieve Marciniak. Betty is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Jim) Roehl; five grandchildren, Sherri (Rod) Hochhalter, Patrick (Gina) Hurt, Kyle (Christie) Hurt, Dale (Nicole) Hurt, and Bradley (Tonya) Roehl; ten great-grandchildren, Cody, Samantha, Madelin, Carter, Ethan, Camdyn, Mason, Ellie, Ava, and Nevaeh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
