Description	:	Betty Phelps, age 86, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Monday, August 24, 2009, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009, at Faith Community Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Paul Smalley officiated, with burial in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Born October 3, 1922, in Logan Township, Ida County, Iowa, Betty Vickery Phelps was the daughter of Purl and Flora (Scott) Vickery. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1939, and did secretarial work for Ida Underwriters Insurance and the Department of Social Services until her marriage to Charles Phelps on December 31, 1944. The couple engaged in farming in the Ida Grove area for 37 years and retired to Ida Grove in October, 1982. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church until her marriage, then joined the Winebrenner Church of God, now known as Faith Community Church, in Ida Grove. She was a charter member of the Ida Grove Rainbow Assembly No. 58 and was a 50-year member and longtime secretary of Maple Chapter No. 337 of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Charles; one daughter, Susan (Tom) Rongitsch of Edina, MN; a son-in-law, Ron Winterhof of Galva; a granddaughter, Christine (Matt) Wunschel of Ida Grove; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Stefan Wunschel; a brother, George (Lorrie) Vickery of Holstein; a brother-in-law, Warren Neal of Arthur; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice Winterhof; and three sisters, Jean Neal, Mary Furlet, and Anne Eberle.
