Beverly Jean (Monson) Elsberry, daughter of Wilmer and Elvera Monson was born January 17, 1936 in Wausa, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Wausa, NE. Beverly Jean (Monson) Elsberry, daughter of Wilmer and Elvera Monson was born January 17, 1936 in Wausa, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Wausa, NE. She attended Bunker Hill Country School, District 59 and graduated from Wausa High School in 1954. She received her teaching certificate at Wayne State College and taught at Liberty Country School near Wausa until she married Myles C. Elsberry on April 2, 1955 at Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. She moved with her husband Myles to Fort Hood, Texas where he was stationed in the Army and in Gatesville Texas until 1957. While in Texas, on October 2, 1956, Bev and Myles had a baby girl, Bobbie Jean who died on October 5, 1956. In 1957, when Myles was discharged from the army, they moved back to Nebraska. They lived on a farm south of Wausa until 1958 when they moved to the family farm north of Wausa where they lived until 1993. They lived in Wausa until 2002 when they moved to a town house at the Avera Majestic Bluffs community in Yankton to be closer to the hospital for her three times per week IV therapy. Bev had a surgery in 1960 that compromised her health for the rest of her life, yet she worked as a certified nurse's aide at the Wausa Nursing Home for 36 years. She was always devoted to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren as well as the residents at the nursing home even when she was not feeling well. During the many years she spent receiving routine IV therapy at Sacred Heart Hospital she had several friends and caregivers. She will be remembered for the many letters of support she wrote to others from her hospital bed and the many doilies and Bible markers she crocheted and gave to others. She loved caring for her grandchildren, especially Natalie, her granddaughter with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome who shared her birthday and spent 15 years on this earth with us. Bev was a member of Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Yankton and the Neighborhood Club. She died unexpectedly on May 23, 2011 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her daughter Bobbie Jean, granddaughter, Natalie Grace, her parents Wilmer and Elvera Monson, mother and father-in-law, Archie and Grace Elsberry. She was loving, supportive, strong wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
